21 December 2021 - Tuesday

We attended the Turkey-United Kingdom Health Business Forum held in Istanbul on 2 - 3 December 2021 as the Hospital/Health Services Sponsor.

The Turkey – United Kingdom Health Business Forum, organized by USHAŞ, which is an organization of the Ministry of Health, is the first international health cooperation meeting of the United Kingdom after Brexit. While many panels were held on the 1st day of the event, B2B meetings were held on the 2nd day. In the forum where investment and cooperation opportunities between Turkey and the United Kingdom were discussed, representatives of the Turkish health sector and the government officials of the United Kingdom, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, medical supplies, health information technologies, health tourism agencies and insurance companies, medical companies and hospitals came together.

Value Based Service Business Model Approach at AKGUN

At the event, our General Manager, Mr. Hakan KARATAŞ took place as a speaker in the panel titled “UK - Turkey Cooperation Opportunities in Digital Health”. In his speech, Mr. Hakan KARATAŞ said, “Data in the health sector doubles every 5 years. The amount of data that can be useful to the physician trying to determine the best strategy for patient care among new research, new treatment methods and existing methods is surprising. In addition, large amounts of data are generated from sources such as medical imaging, vital data collected by biosensors, genome sequencing, and electronic medical records.”

Emphasizing that genomics, digital health and artificial intelligence will have a great impact on patient care in the near future, Mr. KARATAŞ said, “Emerging technologies such as telemedicine, smartphone applications, biosensors for remote diagnosis and monitoring, speech recognition and automatic image interpretation will be especially important for healthcare professionals as they progress. It will be possible for related technologies to offer effective and rational personalized treatment with an integrated digital platform supported by artificial intelligence. Therefore, almost every clinician, from specialist to paramedic, will use artificial intelligence technology.”

In addition, our General Manager said, “Another important issue is that to obtain the highest benefit with technological developments, it is necessary to accompany significant changes in the health service delivery model. A personalized treatment approach to the patient is only possible with the “Value-based service business model approach”. In this context, it will enable the transition to “Patient-oriented” business models and “Citizen-oriented” service models in the near future.”

Mr. KARATAŞ expressed that “Using digital health technologies in value-based health service delivery and operations will create significant different opportunities in the sector while supporting the improvement of maintenance results, reducing costs and increasing service efficiency. In the new ecosystem, patients can ensure they receive the best care at the lowest cost and providers can deliver the best patient outcomes. This could happen in the next 10-15 years or even earlier; health data collected from various sources (Genomics, Biosensors, Physical activity, Drug use, examination and analysis results, family history, mood, medical history, etc.) will initiate thinking about new concepts such as "Virtual Coach" in health.”
