An important difficulty in chest radiographic analysis is that abnormalities resulting from the overlap of normal anatomical structures such as ribs make the main tissue to be examined invisible.

X-Eye:RibOut Bone Suppression System works in conjunction with the X-Eye Thorax System to help the ribs to be printed without loss of information in their original tissue, and therefore to assist in manual identification of chest radiographic images or computer-assisted detection of nodules.

A two-stage algorithm is used to eliminate rib shadows on chest radiographic images. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method for rib separation can provide higher accuracy than the available methods. Rib-related information can significantly improve nodule detection performance of the current computer-assisted diagnostic (CBT) system.

Suppression: Removal of bone tissue from the lung radiograph.
